What is a Habitat ReStore?
In a nutshell: We accept donations of new and gently-used items from individuals and businesses. We sell those items to the public at prices well below retail. We use the proceeds to build Habitat Homes with families in need in Pickens County and we do it all with the help of our wonderful volunteers. It’s simple, really.
What is the money raised at the Habitat ReStore used for?
The money raised through the Habitat ReStore is used to fund Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building homes, community and hope. Plus, profits from the Pickens County Habitat ReStore stay in Pickens County to help Upstate families! We are very thankful for our shoppers, donors and volunteers who have helped families in Pickens County realize the dream of homeownership.
Who benefits from the Habitat ReStore?
Lots of folks! Customers benefit by getting good stuff at a good price. Donors benefit by getting a tax deduction, the knowledge that they are turning their excess stuff into affordable housing and keeping reusable items out of the landfill. Volunteers get to learn new skills and be a part of something special. Pickens County Habitat wins by raising more money to serve our partner families, who are truly the reason we do all this! Can anyone shop at the ReStore?
What kinds of things will I find at the Pickens Co. Habitat ReStore?
We have everything...and the kitchen sink! See the "Donate" page to get an idea of what all we carry on a regular basis or check out our Facebook page where we regularly post photos of recent arrivals of goods. Remember, inventory changes quickly, so make sure that you shop often. If you miss a day, you just might miss a deal!
I can never find the store open! What are your hours?
We appreciate the fact that our hours can be confusing! For shopping we are only open Weds. - Sat. For donations we are open Tuesday as well.
I've seen employees and customers at the ReStore on Tues. but they say they're closed!?
We are indeed here working on Tues. That is the day when we clean the store and when we're lucky there are lots and lots of donated items to clean and process to get ready for our store days. The store is not open for sales on Tuesday but folks are welcome to pick up items that are on hold. Also we do pickups and take in drop-off donations on Tues.
How can I pay at the ReStore?
The ReStore is happy to accept your payment via Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and even ApplePay for purchases of at least $5, or of course we will gladly accept cash if you prefer. Please, no checks!
Do you folks do layaway?
If you'd like to buy a larger item and need to make a partial payment, we do require at least 50% of the purchase price that day. Your item may then be held for 3 business days. When you pick up your item you may pay the remainder.
What happens if I buy something and can’t fit it in my car?
We know that fitting a couch in a Honda Civic isn't that easy - though we have seen people try! We will store merchandise for 3 business days as you arrange transportation of your item. All purchased items must be picked up within 3 business days of the date of purchase. Items left past 3 business days will incur a $5.00 per day storage charge. One week past deadline unclaimed items will be returned to inventory and all monies paid will be kept as donation. No refunds or credit will be given for items returned to inventory.
When can I pick up items that are on hold?
Items may be picked up Tues. between 9am and 5pm, or during our regular store hours Weds. (10am-5pm), Thurs. (10am-7pm), Fri. (10am-6pm) or Sat. (10am-3pm).
Do you pick up donations?
Yes, we do offer free pick-up of oversized items or quantities of items. You can learn more on our Donate page, or call us at 864-859-5999.
Is my donation to the Habitat ReStore tax-deductible?
Yes. Pickens County Habitat for Humanity is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We will gladly provide you with a receipt for your donated items. Due to IRS regulations, we are not allowed to assign value to donated items, but your receipt will list the items you donated. We encourage you to work with your tax professional to determine the value and use of your tax receipt. More information can be found on the IRS website.
Why won’t you accept certain items as donations?
Though we greatly appreciate everyone who wants to donate to the Habitat ReStore, we are unable to accept all items. Sometimes, the reason is related to safety concerns (such as unframed glass and mirrors, lead paint, certain chemicals, etc.) and other times it is for legal reasons (such as used mattresses, baby equipment, recalls, etc.) Also, we have found that we just can’t sell certain items (such as couches that have rips and stains and appliances that are older than your grandmother). When we do end up with these types of items, nobody buys them and we end up having to pay to dispose of the things we cannot recycle, repair or clean. This takes valuable time and money. You can see our donation criteria on our Donate page. On the bottom of that same page we have referrals to other organizations that might be able to accept your donations. Whether or not we can accept your donation, we truly appreciate your thinking of Habitat.

How can my company get involved?
For businesses, donating to the Habitat ReStore is a great way to move discontinued or excess stock, deal with gently used returns and show your customers that you care about the environment and your community. Plus, we’ll come to you, which will save you time and money. We also offer group volunteer opportunities if you want to do a little team building while doing good!
